Call to Worship Alleluia! Christ is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia! This is the good news— the grave is empty; Christ is risen. Hallelujah! This is the good news— the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never put it out. Hallelujah! This is the good news— once we were no people; now we are God’s people. Hallelujah! Christ is our peace, the indestructible peace we now share with each other. Hallelujah!
Confession of Sin Almighty and gracious father, though we are the sheep of your pasture, we are often like the lost sheep who wanders away from the flock. Even today as we remember the good news that Jesus was raised from the dead as a first fruit of the resurrection, we are pushed toward doubt from within and from without. We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself. We believe, Lord. But help our unbelief.
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us your peace.
Assurance of Pardon God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. —Ephesians 2:4-7, NRSV
The Lord’s Supper Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us, that the bread we break and the cup we bless may be the communion of the body and blood of Christ. By your Spirit make us one with Christ, that we may be one with all who share this feast, united in ministry in every place. As this bread is Christ’s body for us, send us to be the body of Christ in the world.
Benediction As Christ burst forth from the tomb, may new life burst forth from us and show itself in acts of love and healing to a hurting world. And may that same Christ, who lives forever and is the source of our new life, keep your hearts rejoicing and grant you peace this day and always. Amen.
Call to Worship I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!
He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.
The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever. -Psalm 121
Confession of Sin O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God. See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads. With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”
By faith, we believe that you are working all things for our good That your kingdom is here and is coming, and will finally come Yet we grieve the pain and confusion we see and hear in this sinful age Come quickly, Lord Jesus, and save us from the sin we see in us and around us
Holy God, Holy and mighty, Holy immortal One, Have mercy on us.
Assurance of Pardon I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead! -Philippians 3:7-11 (NLT)
Benediction May the grace of Christ, which daily renews us, and the love of God, which enables us to love all, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, which unites us in one body, make us eager to obey the will of God until we meet again, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. -Based on 1 Corinthians 13:13
Call to Worship Do not be agitated by evildoers do not envy those who do wrong. For they wither quickly like grass and wilt like tender green plants. Turn away from evil, do what is good, and settle permanently. For the Lord loves justice and will not abandon his faithful ones. They are kept safe forever, but the children of the wicked will be destroyed. The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it permanently. The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom; his tongue speaks what is just. The instruction of his God is in his heart; his steps do not falter.
The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord, their refuge in a time of distress. The Lord helps and delivers them; he will deliver them from the wicked and will save them because they take refuge in him. -From Psalm 37
Confession of Sin Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image; through Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. What the law could not do since it was weakened by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin offering, in order that the law’s requirement would be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. -Romans 8:1-4 Thanks be to God! We are free in Christ!
Benediction The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Alleluia! Amen. —based on Numbers 6:24-26, NIV
