Call to Worship
Praise the Lord.
How good it is to sing praises to our God,
How pleasant and fitting to praise him!
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
He gathers the exiles of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.
-Psalm 147:1-5

Lament
Lord, we come before you weary of the hatred and violence we continue to see in your creation.
Division over politics, race, and ideals for the world is a seed of sin sown deeply into the world around us.
Lord, have mercy and deliver us from evil.
We lament specifically the shootings in the synagogue in Pittsburgh this week.
We ask that our hearts feel the weight of such tragedies, and we pray for the families and communities closest to the violence.
Christ, have mercy and bring your peace.
Lord, we also recognize that the sin that causes hatred and violence has roots in our own hearts.
We confess that it is only by your grace that we can love our neighbor as ourselves.
Father, remind us that our true enemy is not one that we can see, or vote against, or marginalize, for our true enemy is spiritual darkness.
With our eyes set on Jesus, and drawing strength from the Holy Spirit, let us walk in the light and give hope to our world. Amen.

Assurance
When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
-1 Corinthians 15:54-57

Benediction
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. Go now, rejoicing in the confidence of this hope until we meet again.
-1 Peter 1:3-6

Call to Worship
I am at rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will never be shaken.
— Psalm 62:1-2

Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken.
My salvation and glory depend on God, my strong rock. My refuge is in God.
— Psalms 62:5-7

Come Lord Jesus

Confession
Jesus, you have taught:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.

This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

Our Father, we ask you to forgive us where we fall short of your commands.
We give you thanks for your promised forgiveness in Christ,
and we rejoice in your promised Spirit that guides us.
Help us as we seek to live in your kingdom.
Amen.

Assurance
For we are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from ourselves; it is God’s gift — not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.
— Ephesians 2:8-10

As we live in his kingdom, may we remember the joy and refuge he provides.

Call to Worship
I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
-Psalm 121:1-4

Confession
Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We feel the weight of our sin and humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.
-Book of Common Prayer

Shine Into Our Night

Assurance
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,

slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.
He has not dealt wit us according to our sins,
nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.
As far as the east is from the west,
so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Benediction
The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.

Peace be with you all.
And also with you.
-Psalm 121:5-8
