The Worldliness of Lot
Call to Worship
Servants of God, make a praise-filled noise!
Praise the name of the Lord.
Bless the Lord’s name now and always.
Praise the Lord’s name here and in every place
from east to west.
Let us lift our voices in praise
to the maker of heaven and earth,
In this hour of worship and always.
“Do not love the world or the things in the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and
the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from
the Father but is from the world. “
1 John 2:15-16
Lord, we confess that our love often strays from you, our truest delight.
We are enticed by the false promises of comfort and acceptance.
We are seduced by a world that has rejected its true king.
Lord, forgive us for our wandering hearts.
Many of the people of Israel are now enemies of the Good News, and this benefits you Gentiles. Yet they are still loved because he chose their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God’s gifts and His calling can never be withdrawn. For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. For God has handed over all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.
— Romans 11:28-32
Thanks be to God for his immeasurable mercy!
May the grace of God,
deeper than our imagination;
the strength of Christ,
stronger than our need;
and the communion of the Holy Spirit,
richer than our community,
guide and sustain us today
and in all our tomorrows.
Peace be with you.
And also with you.
