Call to Worship
In my distress I prayed to the Lord,
and the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear.
What can mere people do to me?
Yes, the Lord is for me; he will help me.
I will look in triumph at those who hate me.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in people.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.

The Lord is my strength and my song;
he has given me victory.
Songs of joy and victory are sung in the camp of the godly.
The strong right arm of the Lord has done glorious things!
The strong right arm of the Lord is raised in triumph.
The strong right arm of the Lord has done glorious things!

The stone that the builders rejected
has now become the cornerstone.
This is the Lord’s doing,
and it is wonderful to see.
This is the day the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
-Psalm 118:5-9, 14-16, 22-24, 29

Confession of Sin
Holy father, in you the streams of justice and righteousness flow as one river.
This river washes away all our hypocrisy and our sin is totally exposed.

Many of us have tried to flee from your presence in pursuit of power and pleasure; we have treated others like objects for our gain and not as images of the Holy God. Help us see clearly the ways that we have followed the lust of our flesh, the desires of our eyes, and the pride of our possession.

Others among us have kept all the rules since we were young, and we have grown proud. We boast in our works and have forgotten that all we have is a gift. In our pride we look down upon those whose sin is more visible. Father, expose the foolishness and error of our pride and help us return to Christ, our first love.

Assurance of Pardon
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
As a father shows compassion to his children,
so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.

For he knows our frame;
he remembers that we are dust.
But the steadfast love of the Lord is from
everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children’s children,
to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.
—Psalm 103:8, 13-14, 17-18

Benediction
Grant us, Lord God,
the vision of your kingdom,
forgiveness and new life,
and the stirring of your Spirit,
so that we may share your vision,
proclaim your love,
and change this world
in the name of Christ.
Amen.
