The Big Story of the Bible
Call to Worship
Come, bow down and worship, kneel to the Lord, our Maker.
This is our God, our shepherd, we are the flock led with care.
I will sing of your steadfast love, O LORD, forever;
with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;
your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to my servant David:
‘I will establish your descendants forever,
and build your throne for all generations.’”
Praise the Lord!
Based on Psalm 95:6-7, Psalm 89:1-4
Confession of Sin
Father of all history,
from Genesis to Revelation your word is breathed by your Spirit,
Yet we confess that we can doubt the truth of your word
Christ, have mercy
The story of the Bible reveals you to be a promise maker and promise keeper
Yet we confess our fear and anxiety that reveal our weak faith
Lord, have mercy
Israel’s story climaxes with the gospel of Jesus Christ which is pure grace
Yet we confess that we still measure ourselves and others with metrics of performance and achievement.
Christ, have mercy
Assurance of Pardon
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. I also saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.
Then I heard a loud voice from the throne: Look, God’s dwelling is with humanity, and he will live with them. They will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them and will be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away.
The love of God the Father, the faithful creator,
the peace of Christ, the wounded healer,
the joy of the challenging Spirit,
the hope of the Three in One
surround and encourage you
today, tonight, and forever.
