Two Things to Avoid
Call to Worship
The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created.
He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.
He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs.
Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of him.
The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes.
But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his plans can never be shaken.
We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.
-From Psalm 33
Eternal God, we confess that often we have failed to be a perfectly obedient church:
We have not always done your will; we have broken your law.
We have rebelled against your love; we have not loved our neighbors as we should.
We have not heard the cry of the needy.
Forgive us, we pray.
Free us for joyful obedience.
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Assurance of Pardon
There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
As we go, may we love not only in word or speech, but with actions that show the world that we are children of God.
Peace be with you all.
