The Murder of Abel
1 John 3:11-24
Call to Worship
Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
Make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him, sing praise to him;
Tell of all his wonderful acts.
Glory in his holy name;
Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Look to the Lord and his strength and seek his face always.
Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
you his servants, the descendants of Abraham, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Father, we know you are the God of all creation who is worthy of all our love
But we acknowledge this world is broken and hostile toward you.
We know you have called us to love our neighbors with your perfect love
We confess at times we are fearful of our neighbors and fail to love each other.
We know that on our own we fall short of your commands
Holy Spirit, we pray you would encourage our hearts to obey what Jesus taught us.
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit
has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves.
Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children.
Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
Romans 8:1-3, 15-16
As you go, may you live in the confidence that God is with you
in both success and failures– victory and disappointments– leading you on to his joy and rest.
Peace be with you all.

We’re always looking for more volunteers to serve with Kids, Worship, and our Welcome teams.
